If you’ve ever wondered why your tires are wearing funny — or why your car feels nervous in corners — camber might be the reason. A camber kit gives you the power to dial in your alignment geometry, whether for performance, stance, or tire life.
What Is Camber?
Camber is the tilt of your wheels when viewed from the front or back of the car. Wheels that lean inward at the top have negative camber; wheels that lean outward have positive camber.
- More negative camber = better grip in corners (to a point)
- Too much camber = excessive inner tire wear and poor straight-line stability
Most cars have some factory camber — but once you lower the car or start driving aggressively, it’s no longer in the ideal range.
What Does a Camber Kit Do?
A camber kit adds adjustment range to your suspension. Depending on the design, it may include adjustable upper arms, lower arms, camber plates, or control arm bushings.
SLR’s camber kits are designed to handle track abuse and drift loads, not just look cool at a meet.
Who Needs a Camber Kit?
- Lowered Cars: Lowering often increases negative camber beyond usable limits
- Drift Cars: Camber needs to be dialed for front grip and rear slide balance
- Track Cars: Cornering grip depends on tire contact patch — especially under load
- Daily Drivers with Tire Wear Issues: Camber correction can save your tires

What’s the Ideal Camber Angle?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but here’s a general idea:
- Street: -0.5° to -1.5°
- Track: -2.0° to -3.5°
- Drift: -3.5°+ front, near zero rear for traction
Getting your camber right improves tire wear, grip, and steering feel. And with a proper camber kit, you’ll have the control to get it right no matter how your car evolves.
Final Thoughts
A camber kit is one of the smartest upgrades you can make — especially if you’ve already installed coilovers, lowered the car, or started driving more aggressively.
