At the official test sessions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (17-18 April 1971), the Porsche 917/20 participated with a completely white livery, before becoming the very famous "Pink Pig". Driven by Kauhsen, the car achieved the fifth best time, in 3'24"1. The best time was recorded by another Porsche, Oliver's 917LH, with 3'13"6. The 3-hour race also took place on 18 April, in which the 917/20 participated with Kauhsen and Van Lennep. The car had to retire due to injection problems, however it set the fastest lap in 3'21"7.
