Reuse your factory header bolts if they're in good shape. If they're stretched, corroded, or you're pulling a stubborn header, new bolts ensure even clamping pressure and a better seal on the fresh gasket.
Should I clean the header and head surface before installing the new gasket?
Yes. Wire brush or scrape away old gasket material and carbon buildup on both mating surfaces. A clean, flat surface gives the new gasket the best chance to seal without leaks.
