Should I clean the mounting surfaces before installation?
Yes. Scrape away old gasket material from both the manifold and cylinder head surfaces with a gasket scraper or soft putty knife. A clean, flat surface ensures the new gasket seals properly on the first try.
What if I notice exhaust leaking at the joint after installation?
The gasket may not be seated fully. Remove the manifold, clean both surfaces again, and reinstall — this time tightening bolts in a diagonal pattern to apply even pressure across the entire gasket face.
